GUNITE DAM SOLUTIONS
Gunite Dam Solutions is a division of WDJ Construction that specialises
in the construction of seamless concrete dams and lining of canal ways
using the Gunite Spray Method.
THE SPRAYING PROCESS
A mixture of sand, aggregate and cement are sprayed against the surface
at a high speed and fed through a pipe at between 400 and 700 KPA. Just
before the material leaves the pipe, water is added at precisely the correct
amount.
ADVANTAGES OF SPRAYING
- Minimum water added and compacting ensures compressive strength of up
to 60 MPA
- Excellent density
- High friction quality
- Low permeation
- Fast and effective – completion within 4 days.
- Good durability
CHEMICAL ADDITIVES
A SIKA product is added to enhance the binding quality, if necessary,
in situations where the day and night temperatures vary greatly. On completion
of the dam, all surfaces are sprayed with a product (up to 10mm penetration)
for extra density and strength against aggressive water. It also acts
as a sealant for uniform hardening.
RE-INFORCEMENT
Re-inforcement in the floor is a single layer of REF 193 mesh and in the
walls double layers of REF 193 mesh. Additional Y10 high tensile steel
is fixed at 400mm centers against the mesh in the walls. All steel has
a minimum concrete covering of 40mm.
FINISHING
The natural finishing after Guniting gives the best results for structural
strength and durability. Further finishing when Gunite is still wet can
cause disturbance in the binding between the steel and the Gunite. In
other words, timing is of utmost importance.
OUTLETS AND INLETS
An outlet configuration is provided according to client needs. 70mm overflow
pipe is provided at 100mm from the top.
OPTIONAL ROOF
- Galvanized trusses and purlines
- 0,5m IBR.
- Ventilator
REPAIR WORK
- Re-lining of existing structures or dams.
- Re-lining of existing canal systems.
